Closing the gap is about pushing for equality of health for both indigenous and non-indigenous Australians. Close the Gap Website say that at a, 'meeting in late November 2008, the Federal government committed an additional $806 million over 4 years, with the states and territories also contributing matched funds of $772 million totalling $1.6 billion. The Federal and state governments' announcement constitutes the biggest single injection of new funding by a government to improve Indigenous health outcomes.'
Here's the bottom line. Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders have a life expectancy 17 years lower than non-indinegous Australians. That's why we need to close the gap!
Palmerston is not immune to this kind of inequality. How can we close the gap? How can we increase the life expectancy, and health of fellow Aborigines in Palmerston? Maybe you have a program that is achieving this. Why not let us know, comment here, or email: peter.brookshaw@aus.salvationarmy.org
