Crime prevention

When crime rates go up, what does a community do?
Palmerston is a community with many young families, and many bored young people. Teenagers without purpose, direction and probably without good household rolemodels. So how do we go against the grain? How do we make Palmerston a safer place to live?
It must take a multi-directional solution to offset the rising crime rates in the community. It is not just about better policing. It is not simply about the Magistrates offering more 'just' sentences to those involved in crime.
What about the role that you have in preventing crime? How can you make your house safer? How can you act and live in the community that reflects good community? When you're shopping, do you push in front, or do you walk around the Palmerston Shopping Centre with a frown on the face? Little things can make a big difference in the lives of young individuals.

Building Community in Palmerston

Palmerston is really like no other community in the fact that what is needed within it, is a strong, united community. Palmerston on the otherhand is unique in the fact that we have a particular demographic, we have many young families, we have Army personnel, the weather is different to any other part of Australia.

I like to consider how we can build stable, safe and effective community in Palmerston. We won't always agree on everything, and we won't always have the same outlook on life, but there is something special about living in a community that respects each other, that looks out for each other, and is a fun and safe place to live.
